Toga Baby

March 30th, 2010 in rhett    No Comments

Rhett just woke up from his nap wearing a toga.  I have no idea how this happened, but I love it.  He was not entirely thrilled that I chose to take a picture before picking him up.

Roly Poly

March 29th, 2010 in rhett    No Comments

I was planting flowers yesterday and dug up all kinds of worms and roly polies (is that how you make roly poly plural)?  Little did I know, I had my own little roly poly sleeping upstairs.

I put Rhett down for bedtime at about 8:30.  We’ve been letting him sleep on his tummy lately.  At about 10 PM, I heard him screaming (not a normal fuss during a dream).  I ran in his room, and he had rolled over onto his back.  He was still asleep, but I think maybe it just scared him, or frustrated him.  I picked him up and ran downstairs to tell Doug what our little athlete had done.  We tried to have a brief celebration, but the bed bug would not have it.  He was clearly only interested in getting back to bed. We’ll celebrate later.

I’m so proud of my little dude.

Baylor game tonight!  I am so excited right now, I think I need to bullet this post if I have any hope of readability…

  • I am posting this now, just in case we lose.  I admit it.  I wouldn’t have the heart or willpower to post if we’re not still celebrating tomorrow.
  • I’ll also admit that Baylor does not historically have an athletic program worth getting worked up over.  So I, like most Baylor fans, am making hay while the sun shines.  I LOVE having a team worth getting excited about.
  • The greatest thing I have heard today…A Baylor professor posted on a message board today that only 3 out of a possible 240 students showed up for his class today!  I love that.  I have my suspicions that not all 237 students are in Houston today for the game…but I still love that it’s an occasion worthy of playing hookie over.
  • I intend on playing “That Good Old Baylor Line” before the game, and getting at least one good “Sic Em Bears” out of Doug.  We are working on a mutually supportive marriage.
  • In celebration, I made cupcakes.

  • Here we are in our green and gold (Doug wore his green pullover on St. Patrick’s Day, which is to say it’s not clean and likely won’t be till Aprilish).

Ellen and a Bad Paid For Photo

March 26th, 2010 in for fun    2 Comments

Am I the only stay-at-home mom that is obsessed with The Ellen Show?  I know I must be in good company.  I don’t think it’s unreasonable to say that it is one of the best shows on television.  I’ve been known in recent months to set my alarm (even after some of the roughest nights with the little guy), so I don’t miss the show (no, we don’t have one of those fancy recorders all the kids are talking about these days).  I’ve called Doug at work to tell him what Ellen said.  She has become a household name, to say the very least.  Click below to see a couple of my favorite moments:

She has a segment called “Bad Paid for Photos.”  I have submitted a photo a few times, because I confidently believe it is the worst photo that has ever been paid for in history.  I have yet to see it on the show, but here is a sneak peak.  I’m pulling for an Ellen Show debut in 2010.

A Quick Sunday Visit

March 23rd, 2010 in family, rhett    1 Comment

Since we had Rhett, I’ve really never been more acutely aware of the fact that Doug and I have zero family in Austin.  Having a grandparent run over to babysit for a weeknight date sounds like a dream.  Oh, but things could be a lot worse.  We’re so blessed to have family within weekend driving distance.  This weekend, Gigi and Pops (Amanda’s mom and stepdad) came for a few hours on Sunday afternoon.  We went out for lunch and back to the house to watch Rhett.  Yes, you read that right.  That is just about all we did (and all we do).  The kid doesn’t even know he has hands, yet he couldn’t be more entertaining.

Thank you, Gigi and Pops, for coming for a short visit…and happy anniversary!  We love you!

Rhett is Three Months!

March 18th, 2010 in rhett    2 Comments

Rhett is three months old today!  What??  Time has flown.  A few notes about the little guy…

  • According to the Wii Fit, he weighs just shy of 12 pounds.
  • He still fits in 0-3 month clothes, but is starting to wear some 3-6 month numbers.
  • He is so smiley and very alert.
  • He sleeps through the night a few times a week.
  • He eats about 5-6 oz every four hours during the day.
  • He is so close to rolling over.  He gets on his side very easily, but hasn’t figured out how to get that arm underneath him yet.
  • He poops every two days…quite a hefty load when it arrives.
  • He’s never been sick. Thank you, Lord.
  • He has been to the nursery several times at church and plays very nice with the other children.
  • He has worn shoes three times.

A few pictures of him on his one quarter birthday…

Happy St. Patty’s

March 17th, 2010 in for fun    No Comments

Oh, I do love green.  Happy St. Patty’s Day!

It was five years ago today that Doug and I were first in the same place at the same time – a St. Patrick’s Day Party at a mutual friends house.  Ironically, neither of us remember each other.  How romantic.  Thank you Lord, for a second meeting. Look at us now…living together, having babies, happy as clams.

Such a beautiful day to celebrate your local Irishmen.  Hope you’re doing it in style.

TGIFriday Night Lights Filming Locations

March 14th, 2010 in for fun    35 Comments

(background: i think i’ve made it clear how much i love to sleep.  so, having a newborn that woke me up every three hours in the middle of the night was rough. i found myself more than once asleep sitting straight up with a baby in my arms…which translates as a safety hazard.  i quickly learned that i needed to figure out a way to keep myself awake long enough to satisfy the little guy’s appetite. enter “friday night lights.”)

Just as I soon as I finished seasons 1,2 and 3 of Friday Night Lights, I convinced Doug to give the show a whirl.  He’s hooked.  We’re both borderline obsessed.  He may deny that, but any company we’ve had over the past month has seen the pilot episode, thanks to him.  He’s intent on recruiting more fans.  If you’re not already a regular viewer, you really should give it a chance.  If you’re a Netflix-er, you can stream the first three seasons online instantly.  It’s worth your time.

If you’re not familiar with the show, you may not know that is filmed here in Austin.  So besides the good old fashioned drama addiction, it’s been fun to identify local hot spots in the show…which has led to the ridiculousness of this post…

After several times of “I wonder where the Taylor’s house is” and “I bet Rig’s house is in 78704,” we decided that we had to find out where these filming locations were.  Sounds like an easy task, but believe me, you’d be surprised.  I’m pretty handy at the Google, but I spent more time than I care to admit searching every combination of key words to find where these two houses were.  Nothing.

This weekend has been our first free, no company, no obligations weekend that we’ve had in weeks.  We decided to use our time wisely…doing detective work, of course.  You would be appalled at the lengths we went to in order to find these houses.  We’ll suffice it to say that it involved slow-motion playback of several (many) episodes, screen shots and zooms, Google maps (street view) and the Travis Central Appraisal District website.  Someone should really hire us for investigation.  All that to say, we found the houses and drove by for personal gratification.

And now, ladies and gentlemen, the houses…

Fundue

My sister, Bailey, gave me a fondue pot several years ago for Christmas.  I had never used it until three years ago on Oscar night.  Doug and I decided to try it out.  We had such a great time, and decided to make it an Oscar night tradition.  So, Sunday was our third annual Oscar fondue date.  Some of my favorite things…Doug, fondue, good wine and the Oscars (and a sleeping baby).

(a sidenote: because i come from a blended family, every year always looked different…so very few traditions.  i LOVE traditions.  so, we’re starting our own.  if you have any traditions that you love, i would love to hear them.)
