TGIFriday Night Lights Filming Locations

(background: i think i’ve made it clear how much i love to sleep.  so, having a newborn that woke me up every three hours in the middle of the night was rough. i found myself more than once asleep sitting straight up with a baby in my arms…which translates as a safety hazard.  i quickly learned that i needed to figure out a way to keep myself awake long enough to satisfy the little guy’s appetite. enter “friday night lights.”)

Just as I soon as I finished seasons 1,2 and 3 of Friday Night Lights, I convinced Doug to give the show a whirl.  He’s hooked.  We’re both borderline obsessed.  He may deny that, but any company we’ve had over the past month has seen the pilot episode, thanks to him.  He’s intent on recruiting more fans.  If you’re not already a regular viewer, you really should give it a chance.  If you’re a Netflix-er, you can stream the first three seasons online instantly.  It’s worth your time.

If you’re not familiar with the show, you may not know that is filmed here in Austin.  So besides the good old fashioned drama addiction, it’s been fun to identify local hot spots in the show…which has led to the ridiculousness of this post…

After several times of “I wonder where the Taylor’s house is” and “I bet Rig’s house is in 78704,” we decided that we had to find out where these filming locations were.  Sounds like an easy task, but believe me, you’d be surprised.  I’m pretty handy at the Google, but I spent more time than I care to admit searching every combination of key words to find where these two houses were.  Nothing.

This weekend has been our first free, no company, no obligations weekend that we’ve had in weeks.  We decided to use our time wisely…doing detective work, of course.  You would be appalled at the lengths we went to in order to find these houses.  We’ll suffice it to say that it involved slow-motion playback of several (many) episodes, screen shots and zooms, Google maps (street view) and the Travis Central Appraisal District website.  Someone should really hire us for investigation.  All that to say, we found the houses and drove by for personal gratification.

And now, ladies and gentlemen, the houses…

  34. Lisa Brown says:

Hello there. I am a Brown too! I am writing to you from a suburb outside of Toronto, Ontario Canada. I was googling Friday Night Lights and somehow got to your site. My husband and I and our friends are visiting Austin in May which makes that our third trip there in a year. Can you tell that we love it there? Like you, we located some of the filming locations including the Riggins house (awesome story and pics by the way) as well as the Taylor, Saracen, Williams, Garrity and Howard residences and a lot more. This this first trip to Austin for our friends so they will be getting the grand tour of all things FNL. All four of us are huge fans. By the way is there a pool in the back of the Riggins house? In some seasons there is and in later seasons there isn’t.

We haven’t been ble to find Jason, Luke, Landry and Becky’s houses but we found Riggins plot of land which was cool! Also have you seen Jesse Plemmons band Cowboy and Indian play live? They play a lot in Austin.

Looking forward to another incredible trip to your fair city :)

    Cheers, Lisa

Ps kudos for getting the part as an extra. I wanted to go to and be an extra at the end of season five but no one could go with me :(
