Name Your Tunes

I should have added “know myself better” to my goals for my 29th year.  Sometimes I get so frustrated at myself because I can’t remember if I like salt on my margaritas or not.  Or I can’t remember if I liked a movie, or if I even saw a movie for that matter.  I like when people know themselves really well – know their weaknesses, their strengths, their loves and their hates.

Recently, I had lunch with my friend Angela.  We realized that we had both come to terms with a couple things this year.  Angela is not crafty. And now, in her 30th year, she is claiming it.  Me…I don’t like bananas.  I have tried to convince myself for 29 years that I like bananas.  And I don’t.  And it feels so good to finally decide that for myself and not put the pressure on myself to act like I enjoy that mush.

In the spirit of knowing myself better, I’ve decided on my top 10 favorite songs to date.  Some may surprise you, but they do not surprise me – and that’s what knowing yourself is all about. I love these songs.  Some for the memories they bring back, some because of the musical construction and some because they are just dang good songs.

(in no particular order)

Your turn.  What are your favorite, timeless-to-you tunes?

Again. I love reading your posts. If I say this every time, will that make me a weird stalker type person?

Meet In The Middle – Diamond Rio…don’t ask.

And uhm…the movie thing. I have to ask Michael if I’ve seen a movie when that topic comes up. I avoid it b/c I can’t remember what I’ve seen…and if I can remember, I don’t know if I liked it or not.
Maybe in my upcoming 36th year (since 35 is 3/4 of the way done…and it’s gonna be summer…I’ll just roll with the last 3 months), I’ll learn myself better too and know what movies I’ve seen and liked. and music. and food. and the list goes on.

Ha! I’m with you on the movie thing. I always tell Jeremy I want to see a movie and he tells me- “We’ve already watched that!”

  3. i love that you just posted this. i have been really feeling lately like i don’t know myself well enough. i keep trying to figure out what to do to fix that. i will admit, in an effort to know myself better, that i don’t really care about music. i’ll listen to most anything. so there you go, i don’t know what my favorite songs are, mainly because i don’t know the names of more than about 5 songs, if even that.

my number 1 is on your list.
    and i am an artist.
it was really freeing to actually own that. every pursuit i go after, every thing that i love and get joy out of and brings me passion is a creative endeavor. that makes me an artist. only took 43 years to figure that out.
