Apple Bottom

February 10th, 2011 in for fun, rhett, video    5 Comments

Somehow after Rhett turned one, I realized I have nothing interesting to say anymore.

If you want to know about the old man and woman in the grocery store that nearly caused me to be late to my Super Bowl party because they were hitting on each other under the disguise of discussing suspenders that were made to look like yardsticks, then I may have something interesting to say after all. But, overall, it’s pretty quiet here.

Rhett isn’t walking yet. Still doing the cruising thing like a champion. But, he does dance. That’s right. Check it out. Please excuse the (mildly) inappropriate music.

Ace Ventura: A New Review

October 8th, 2010 in for fun, rhett, video    5 Comments

In the year 1994, Roger Ebert said this about Ace Ventura – Pet Detective:

“I found the movie a long, unfunny slog through an impenetrable plot. Kids might like it.  Real little kids.”

Turns out, he was right.  Boy, was he right.  If Rhett could speak in English, he would say:

“That movie was the funniest movie I’ve ever seen.  I know I’ve only seen a few movies in my life, but I reckon about 10 years from now, I’ll still think this movie is the funniest.  Mr. Jim makes funny faces and noises and the animals are funny too.”

Instead, Rhett communicates his thoughts like this:

Crazy Love

I don’t know who you are.  I don’t know what your week has looked like.  But, this is what I do know…God loves you with a crazy, intoxicating kinda love.  Let him.

I Love When He Laughs

August 12th, 2010 in rhett, video    4 Comments

I remember holding him in my arms seconds after he was born and feeling a little funny.  He was so tiny and so unhappy.  I remember wondering if this is what it was supposed to feel like.  Holding my first baby, and honestly, a little unsure.

I remember finding out I was pregnant.  I remember the feeling of panic, fear and uncertainty.

I remember getting an invitation to a friend’s birthday party and feeling a sense of regret that I may not be able to go, due to the 16 lb. appendage I’ve acquired.

All those feelings exist.  And they are real.  But, they pale (even vanish) in comparison to the love that I have for Rhett.  I am totally in love.  He has brought more joy to our lives in the last 8 months than I would have ever dreamed. I like to sneak in his room while he sleeps just to look at him.  I love to lay on the floor with him and have staring contests.  I love to pray for him and read to him.  I just love him.

And when he laughs, there is just something about it.  I can’t help but laugh with him.  And there is maybe no better feeling in the world than to share a laugh with an 8-month-old when neither one of us knows what we’re laughing at.

There Are Things That Make Him Dad

June 21st, 2010 in doug, video    4 Comments

Doug has been “Uncle Doug” for nineteen years.  Six months ago he became “Daddy.”  And it is perfect.  There is no good way to describe the kind of dad Doug has become, and is becoming today.  He is selfless, patient and so giving.  He goes to work everyday never complaining, so that we can stay home together.  He loves that boy like crazy.  And he’s already that parent whose conversations almost always go back to Rhett and how proud he is of him.  God is sharpening Doug everyday to be the man that he wants Rhett to be one day.  And really, there’s no other man on the planet that I would rather my son be like than him.

And a short video…

Puppet Show

Something happens to your sense of humor when you become a parent.  This was the hardest laugh we had all weekend.  Thank you, Rhett, for being so compliant.

Over here…
